Information for New Members
What should you bring?
We ask that you bring with you to each class, the following:
- Collar and lead – no extendable/flexi leads. We recommend not to use harnesses for obedience training, and we are happy to talk through suitable collar choices for your dog.
- Poo bags – please ensure that you clean up after your dog when entering and exiting the hall.
- A toy or retrieve item for your dog – something they will love but not one that they have played with at home before. I find a sock with knots tied in it a good start for young dogs, or an empty plastic bottle inside a sock works well too!
- A small amount of dog treats – kept in your pocket, no noisy wrappers! Plain chicken or cheese works wonders!
- A mat or piece of carpet that your dog can fit on - not their bed from home, a non-slip door or bath mat seems to be a popular choice.
- A grooming brush, comb, or glove, for when we do our safe handling exercises.
We can help you with this on your first night, so don’t worry if you are unsure if what you bring with you is correct. We have ‘spares’ if necessary.
What class will you be in?
On your first night, you will be in the puppy/beginners class, but we will move you to a more advanced class if we feel this is necessary.
Help and advice outside of class
We are always happy to offer help and advice where we can, but we ask you to wait until the class is finished to allow for a smooth-running class.
